Many of those who became sick reported consuming salami in sandwiches or from deli counters.

Symptoms of Salmonellosis

Salmonellosis is an infection caused by Salmonella bacteria. Symptoms may include:

  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Fever and chills
  • Stomach cramps
  • Headaches

While symptoms usually last between four and seven days, some individuals require hospitalization and may experience long-term health effects. If you are experiencing symptoms and consumed any of the recalled products, seek medical attention immediately.

What Is a Class Action?

A class action is a legal proceeding where one individual represents a larger group of people with similar legal claims. Instead of each person filing an individual lawsuit, a class action allows the group to pursue a common claim collectively.

Once filed, the Court must decide whether the claim can proceed as a class action. If it is approved (referred to as “certified” in Alberta), the Court appoints a Representative Plaintiff to act on behalf of the group. Everyone who fits the criteria becomes a Class Member.

The proposed Salmonella class action would represent all individuals in Canada who:

  • Purchased the recalled salami products; or
  • Consumed the recalled products and became ill.
